Saudi Arabia, Singapore Ink Deal on Mutual Recognition of Halal Certificates
Highlights: The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura) have signed a preliminary agreement to collaborate on halal product quality assurance. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) aims to establish procedures for conformity assessment, standard specifications, and technical regulations for issuing halal certificates. It includes mutual recognition for exported local products and the exchange of expertise in training, research, and laboratory analysis. The Saudi Halal Center, part of the National Transformation Program, recently awarded halal certificates to over 219 facilities, enhancing trade procedures and supporting the global competitiveness of local products.
