Cardiovascular Diseases
Coronary Heart Disease and Strokes are responsible for the highest number of fatalities worldwide, as well as in the OIC countries.
Diabetes
Diabetes is widely spread across the OIC countries. For instance, Malaysia has the highest rate of diabetes in Western Pacific region and one of the highest in the world, costing around 600 million US dollars per year. The prevalence of diabetes raised from 11.2% in 2011 to 18.3% in 2019, with a 68.3% increase.
Lung Diseases
Lung diseases (Cystic Fibrosis and Asthma) are a leading cause of death in the OIC countries, especially in Indonesia, where it causes around 80,000 deaths each year.
Kidney Diseases
Among the OIC countries, Saudi Arabia has the highest share of deaths caused by kidney diseases. Kidney diseases we are focussed on include Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), and Severe anemia.
Oncology
The OIC member states accounts for more than 10% of the new cancer diagnoses worldwide, as well as 12% of global cancer-related deaths. Among the commonly reported cancers in the muslim world and our focus areas of development include halal drugs for lung cancer, colon-rectal cancer, breast cancer, leukemia, and lymphoma.
Arthritis
Arthritis is a common disease worldwide, including in OIC countries. According to the WHO, the prevalence of arthritis increases with age and affects an estimated 10% of the world’s population.
